A year in the life of a bat.
January – March : These are winter months and they are hibernating.
April : They come out of hibernation but are not fully active. They may go back to sleep called ” torpor ” if they feel cold.
May : By this time, they are fully active and hunt all night. Females start looking for places where they can take care of the babies. We ‘ll talk about them in a while.
June – August : Bat babies called pups are born, they grow up and go out to hunt for themselves. We’ll learn how they grow up after this.
September – October : They mate, find as much food as they can to store for the hibernation which is going to come. They also find places where they can sleep undisturbed.
November – December : They start sleeping more and more and go into hibernation in small groups or alone in caves, hollow trees or rocks.
As promised, we come back to how bats give babies .
